TennisNYC league members are well screened, mostly professionals with MBAs, Law degree, doctorate degrees, work in Finance with no tennis attitude.  I just bring my racquet and I'm ready to go! I even get my partner's profile and photo from my email box the night before my match!!! For a very small league fee, you can't beat that!" - FREDFred

Photo above shows Eric Capuano doing the volley lesson with a prospective member of the league.  I do the evaluation/drills in the back of my building in Edgewater.  I live in a luxury apartment building (24 hr doorman) with a tennis court and a pool in the back.

Photo above shows Central Park Tennis Center in Manhattan, NYC where most TennisNYC league members play! During the SPRING/SUMMER/FALL outdoor tennis season, we play in most PUBLIC outdoor tennis courts in NYC including Central Park Tennis Center, Red Clay courts on the Upper West Side (95th st and Riverside), 116th courts, West Side Hwy Courts, and New Jersey in North Bergen Park with 24 courts, Port Imperial courts and Lincoln Park. Central Park tennis center will open for the Spring Tennis Season around first week of April 2008.  Their hours of operation is from 6:30am until 7pm. To play in Central Park, you only need to get a season tennis permit from the Arsenal Building on 5th Ave and 65th St. ($100) which is good until the end of outdoor tennis season (Nov 2008).  You can also get your NYC tennis permit from the www.paragonsports.com  Paragon Sporting Good Store on 18th st and Broadway in Manhattan.  Just bring $100 and go to the Tennis Section of the store and you should be able to get your permit within 5 min.  You can get your permit as soon as March 2008.

Photo above shows 2 league players stretching after an hour and a half of intense workout, drills, hitting, forehand, backhand, volleys, drop shots etc prior to joining the league.  Before you join the league, you will go through an evaluation/hitting/drills process.  It will give me an opportunity to meet you in person and assess your level so I can better pair you up with other members of the league. Every member of the league is happy with the service and the amount of tennis they get plus all the instructions, drills and of course the nice people they meet!

We always take time to socialize and meet new league members and share nice stories about career, life and of course joke around.  Most league members are nice people and good players too! It makes playing more fun if you are playing with nice people who are also good players with no attitude!

New for this 2008 SEASON: We will have out of town tennis outings once a month!!!! Meet a lot of members in one day, play tennis, swim by the pool, have lunch and play tennis again- all in one day during the weekend!!! De-stress away from the city once a month!!! During the outings in the Catskills region or South Jersey Shore or at the TennisNYC vacation home in Daytona Beach Florida (photo below), we will have tennis aerobics, drills, lessons, match arrangements (mix doubles and singles) and socials!!! We will also do once a month round robin tennis indoor at Binghamton Tennis Club (private tennis club) so you can play/meet with many different league members.

DEAR PROSPECTIVE LEAGUE MEMBERS,

Thank you for your interest in TennisNYC.com tennis leagues this New Year 2008!!!.

TennisNYC.com league is all year round - Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter 2008!!!

PLEASE READ THE LEAGUE INFO BELOW VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU JOIN THE LEAGUE!

The purpose of this tennis league is to reduce your physical/emotional/mental/work stress (tennis therapy), improve your health and physical conditioning (cardio tennis), improve your tennis game (tennis drills and lessons at a private court behind my building), tennis tournaments, stay healthy and play and meet other tennis players who are nice and well educated.

My name is Koko Lani. I am the founder and league director of TennisNYC and I run the website, www.tennisnyc.com and the tennis league. I am a tennis player myself, have been playing for more than 20 years now in NYC and am doing this league because I love tennis. I was a FINALIST (2x) in the Womens Singles Open tournament in Central Park.

What level are you? Were you rated by USTA? Number of years playing tennis? I am asking this question to better help you and to put you in the right group of league members. We have games for everybody and we welcome everyone. It is a fun and social tennis league.

I can also give you good competition if that is what you prefer. We will have a tennis tournament for intermediates and advanced players this Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter 2008 tennis season.  The prize for the tournament is a FREE vacation stay at the TennisNYC vacation home, located next to Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Betsy, a member of the league is shown above with Hakuna (the ball girl/dog of the league) after hitting hundreds of tennis balls at a private court in my building.

Before you join/hit/play with the league, your game needs to be evaluated.

The evaluation will be for one hour (guaranteed) to 1 1/2 hrs, sometimes 2 hours. This will include drills (forehand, backhand, overheads, volleys, lessons, conditioning exercises, strategy drills etc) I usually do the evaluation at the private outdoor FREE tennis court in my building in Edgewater.  I do the evaluation there to save you money because the court in my building is FREE. If you prefer doing it at a public court in NYC or NJ (outdoors) or private tennis club in Manhattan or NJ (indoors), let me know in advance so we can arrange it.

During this evaluation session, you will be able to practice on your strokes especially if you didn't play last winter. You will hit hundreds and hundreds of tennis balls and will get basic lessons from Eric Capuano, the league coach. You will definitely get your money's worth!! During this initial session, I also try to get to know you more, take your digital photo for the website, www.tennisnyc.com and email it to league members so they will become familiar with you.

NOTE: If you just want to do tennis drills (hitting hundreds of balls) and/or lessons without joining the league, this is also possible.  The lessons will be done at a private court in my building. However, PRIORITY will be given to those who can make a commitment in joining the league.

UPDATE!!!! ATTENTION PROSPECTIVE LEAGUE MEMBERS!!! Reserve your spots now for the drills and evaluation at the FREE OUTDOOR COURT BEHIND MY BUILDING (photo below)!!! You will save money because the court is free!!!! There is a huge demand for Spring/Summer 2008 LEAGUE so reserve now!!! FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS ONLY!

Here's the new Spring/Summer 2008 procedure:

BECAUSE OF THE GREAT DEMAND AND INQUIRIES TO JOIN THE LEAGUE THIS Spring 2008, FIRST PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO ARE SERIOUS ABOUT JOINING THE LEAGUE.  If you want to do just tennis drills (cardio) and lessons but not join the league, you will be given second priority in scheduling.

Please email me the best time/day you want to do this initial evaluation.  You can get to my building by car, bus or ferry.  If you take the ferry, I will pick you up from the ferry station (Port Imperial) www.nywaterway.com (5 min boat ride from Manhattan and 5 min car ride to the tennis court in the back of my building) and after your drills/evaluation/lessons, I will drive you back to the boat terminal.

Eric Capuano giving serve lessons to prospective league members in the back of my building.  I live in a safe building with security cameras all over the premises and has a great view of Manhattan skyline!

If you are a beginner and have a good attitude and serious about getting better, I will work with you until you are ready to play matches or hit with other players.  You can take lessons from me (beginners only) and Eric (the league coach for advanced players) or at any other clubs or PRO's in NYC or NJ. TennisNYC lessons/drills for beginners and low intermediates cost $95 (4 students maximum) for 1 1/2 hrs to 2hours. If there are 2 players, there will be 2 instructors (check photo above). Since the court in my building is FREE, you will be able to save a lot of money.

I will not mix a beginner with an intermediate player or advanced player because it will not work that way. Its not fair for both. I hope you understand that some members have been playing tennis since they were kids and have taken lots of lessons! Some are ex college tennis players and tennis coaches/instructors.  Our league members level range from advanced beginners to highly advanced players.

The league is very fluid, meaning, it is a mixture of singles/doubles/mix doubles or just HITTING with other league members etc. You will not always play with the same player/s.

Central Park Tennis Center on 96th St and Central Park West
Surface is green clay!!! Most league members play in CP before work and after work!

You can play anytime during the week and anywhere you prefer in Manhattan (ie Central Park Tennis Center) or NJ or Prospect Park in Brooklyn. The schedule will depend on how much you are willing to play. Its up to you. YOU CHOOSE WHERE and WHEN YOU WANT TO PLAY. However, please remember that most league members are professionals and work during the day and have normal work hours.  They usually play before work or after work and/or weekends and at night.

We play daily, day and night! Always email me your tennis schedule at least a week or a few days in advance and I will try and get you a partner from the league. You need to be flexible with regards to your tennis schedule. Each time you call or email me, I will try to book you with a group of players or a player for singles or doubles game and coordinate your match.  I email photos/cell and other details of your partner/s the night before your match and coordinate all the details.

Once you become a member, you can always view online who among the league players are scheduled to play and the weekly/daily schedule of the league which is updated every few hours.

We will also have once a month TENNIS PARTIES INDOORS at a private club in NYC or NJ.  During the party, you will meet more players and will get a chance to play ROUND ROBIN TENNIS!

Finding a good player with a nice attitude is very hard.  You no longer have to call strangers day and night to look for a player you don't even know.  I do all of these for you so you can just go to the courts with no worry and just play. I meet every member of the league in person and evaluate their game so you are assured that the person you will be playing is nice, professional, well educated and has a great personality!

Central Park Tennis Center in Manhattan (photo above) will open again for the 2008 outdoor tennis season around first week of April 2008, however, the rest of the public outdoor tennis courts in Manhattan and NJ are always open all year round. We also play on 96st and Riverside (outdoor red clay courts), on 113th st and Broadway (hard court), lower east side courts (hard courts in downtown), lower west side courts (hard courts near the west side highway) and other public outdoor courts in NYC.

Please click here to know more about NYC CENTRAL PARK TENNIS CENTER tennis permit application and renewal for 2008 tennis season!!!

We also have tennis dinner parties for new members (photo above)

You need to be a member of the league for 4 months (minimum) before you can cancel your league membership. After 4 months, you can cancel your membership at any time, BUT YOU WONT BE ENTITLED TO A REFUND, and I also reserve the right to cancel your membership at any time starting from the time you sign up for whatever reason/s I deem appropriate. If I cancel your membership for whatever reason/s, YOU WONT BE ENTITLED TO A REFUND.  If you decide to cancel your league membership at any time and then try to join the league again, your application will go through an evaluation process and you can possibly be denied to rejoin.

If your motivation in joining the league is to just find good tennis players then quit after a few weeks and take the league members with you, please DON'T JOIN THE LEAGUE.  If you are serious about getting better and finding good and nice tennis players and playing lots of tennis, then you found the right league.

I hope you understand that organizing tennis matches of similar level, coordinating with people with regards to time, place to play, booking a court, advertising on the website, recruiting and evaluating players, supervising the game, making sure everybody comes on time, calling and emailing players day and night, collecting fees etc take a lot of time and work and not an easy thing to do.

IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE YOU SIGN UP:
Please understand that you are only paying a VERY SMALL amount of money to play in the league. Leagues at private tennis clubs in NYC will cost you anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 plus court fees and evaluation fees.

As a matter of fact, I encourage you to try this on your own first and JOIN OTHER LEAGUES FIRST in NYC or NJ or GO to private tennis clubs, before you join our league so you will have a better idea. A lot of tennis players give up tennis because they can't find a partner (on a regular basis) of similar level who has a good personality or can't afford to pay very expensive court fees/league fees/lessons etc.

If you have a demanding personality, and has tons of tennis attitude (superiority complex) that will affect the league in a negative way, I'd rather you don't join at this time. If you think that your tennis level is so high that you will not play or socialize with other players below your level, this league is not for you.  I don't encourage players with TENNIS ATTITUDE to join our league.  I tell players with attitude that if they think their game is very high, they should just join the ATP/WTA Professional Tennis Circuits.

If you are prejudice against a tennis player of any race, religion, age, ethnic origin, gender, social and economic background, sexual orientation etc, please don't join the league at this time until you have worked on your "other issues" in life. This league is for everyone. We welcome every nationality, every age group (over 18 years old), every gender etc. It unites people through tennis. TennisNYC is the United Nations of Tennis!!! Our league members are from all over the world!!!

CALL ME ASAP or email me for more questions. Each tennis player has a unique situation and needs. So I will tailor the league accordingly depending on the player's situation.  Again, I would like to emphasize that you will CHOOSE where you want/prefer to play depending on your convenience or place where you live.

See you soon at the tennis courts, I hope!

Play tennis, there is no excuse!!! It's fun, therapeutic, good exercise for your body and mind and a great way to meet friends. It is more fun than going to the gym! When you are playing tennis, you don't feel like you are working out.

If you respond to this letter, please include your phone numbers in NYC/NJ (home phone and address in NYC/NJ and cell phone numbers as well as your work phone, work address and company name).

Also, please feel free to call me at anytime if you have more questions.
